Problem Statement

Today’s gaming world is filled with Ego Shooters, Open world and Battle Royale. But very few of them contain the traditional role playing fighting system and spirit. We thought of developing a game that was somewhat traditional and modern at the same time. Many people that love the old Final Fantasy games are having trouble finding similar games today. Surprisingly the games that made round based fighting popular are also drifting away from that concept. Even though, it is missed by a large group of video game fans around the world. So we wanted to bring that back.

Idea and Concept

Tales of Fioreno is a role playing game, which evolves around a medieval fighting tournament in the kingdom of Fioreno. Our main character is Loreo, a 17-year-old boy with a rough upbringing. He grew up in the Slums of Fioreno, where the only way to escape is winning the Tournament, which results in being honored by the King and living a prosperous life after as the King’s guard. We took games like Persona 4 or Final Fantasy 10 as our primary examples of how an RPG should look like. Our main focus was building a round based fighting system and character development.

Implementation

Our main tools were Unreal Engine 4, Perforce, Blender, Discord and Slack. In order to have a RPG-like fighting experience we needed to implement the round based fighting style. We modified certain enemys and added weaknesses to them. The main Tower had 4 levels , so we decided that everyone on the team designs one level. Each level has a different strategy in order to challenge the player(Labyrinth, long hallways with enemys). Our main base ingame is the so called „Shadow Tavern“ in which you can save and teleport back to the Tower.
